Cops: Man Attacked Chasing After Subway Phone Thief

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A subway rider was beaten earlier this month as he chased after a man who stole his cellphone, police said.

The 34-year-old victim was riding on a southbound D train around 8:15 p.m. on Feb. 17 when a thief snatched his iPhone from his hand, police said. The suspect fled off the train as it entered the 205th Street station in the Bronx, and the victim ran after him. When the victim reached the station's platform, he was surrounded by several other men who punched him in the face before fleeing, cops said.

The NYPD has released surveillance photos of the suspects. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-8477 or to submit a tip online at NYPDCrimeStoppers.com. All communications are kept confidential.
