Cops: App Snapped Photo Of Man After Phone Stolen On Subway Train

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A straphanger who fell asleep on the subway awoke to find that someone had cut open his pockets and stolen his wallet and cellphone, police said.

Police have released a photo of a man that was taken by an app on the phone while he was trying to unlock it.

The theft occurred around 3 a.m. on Dec. 8 on a southbound No. 4 train. The victim boarded the train at 101st Street in Manhattan and woke up at the Borough Hall stop in Brooklyn.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the theft or the man in the photo to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-8477 or to submit a tip online at NYPDCrimeStoppers.com. All communications are kept confidential.
