Connecticut Transportation Officials Consider Ideas For Traffic Congestion Relief

BRIDGEPORT, CONN. (CBSNewYork) -- Connecticut transportation officials held a forum Wednesday afternoon to hear ideas from the experts on how to reduce traffic congestion on state highways.

As WCBS 880's Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau reported, widening highways and other traditional methods of reducing congestion aren't doing the job.

Officials meeting in Bridgeport on Wednesday said they want to hear all ideas and sort out the successes and the challenges encountered by other states who have implemented congestion relief programs.

One idea that is once again up for discussion is electronic tolling. It's not a given, Schneidau reported, it's just one weapon in the war against highway congestion, which transportation officials in Connecticut have just begun to fight.
