Connecticut Lawmaker: Software Designed To Speed Up DMV Wait Times Is A Failure

NORWALK, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- The Connecticut DMV in Norwalk has never been known as the place to go, conduct your business and quickly get out. The wait time has always been long -- very long.

And despite that the DMV has installed new computer software designed to speed things up -- a $25 million investment -- customers are standing in line longer than ever.

State Rep. Gail Lavielle, R-Wilton, is monitoring the situation and says DMV customers are livid, WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau reported. The bottom line is the new computer service has failed miserably, Lavielle said.

"Wait times at the DMV are triple what they were before they upgraded their computer system," she said.

Lavielle said the way to fix the problem is for the agency to outsource more of its services to AAA, which, she said, is already doing a great job handling license renewals.

All the DMV has to do is agree to it. No state action is required.
