Connecticut DMV Urges Safe Habits During National Teen Driver Safety Week

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - With the Connecticut DMV's National Teen Driver Safety Week in full swing, WCBS 880's Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau spoke with one Connecticut father who lost his son when a distracted teen hit and killed him.

Leo Dorsey and his wife Marlene's son Kenneth was killed two and a half years ago while he was out jogging in Norwalk. He was struck by an SUV driven by a teen who was checking out a website on her phone. Leo can't come to grips with anyone using a cellphone while behind the wheel of a car.

"My son was killed because somebody thought she had to check her school website or whatever she was doing. Come on. A life for that?" Leo said.

The Connecticut DMV is again urging parents to emphasize the need to lay down strict driving rules for teens, stressing that using the phone while driving is a prohibitive as is drinking or speeding when behind the wheel.
