Connecticut Business Leaders Say State Democrats' Budget Plan Will Be A Disaster
FAIRFIELD, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- Business leaders from Fairfield County heard from state lawmakers, Republican and Democrat, about their parties' budget plans.
As WCBS 880's Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau explained, they did not like what they heard from Democrats who control both houses of the state legislature.
Essentially, business leaders gave a thumbs down to the budget plan proposed by state democratic lawmakers. Joe McGee of the Business Council of Fairfield County said their plan imposes $5-billion of new taxes over the next four years.
McGee said the taxes are not a formula for success.
"We all are sitting there as a business community going, 'they're not getting this.' We have slow-growing economy. We are one of the most highly taxed states in the nation, and this is just not the right solution," he said.
McGee noted that Governor Malloy, a Democrat himself, feels the plan relies too heavily on taxes, especially taxes on business.
McGee called the budget plan a "disaster for business growth" in Connecticut.
