Police: Baby Was With Father Who Jumped Into Connecticut River

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police were searching the Connecticut River on Monday for the body of a 7-month-old boy, who authorities say was with his father when he jumped from a bridge Sunday night.

Crews were looking for the baby, Aaden Moreno, in the river between Middletown and Portland. Police say his 22-year-old father, Tony Moreno, of Middletown, called someone about 11:45 p.m. Sunday, saying he would jump from the Arrigoni Bridge. That person contacted police and said a baby could be heard in the background.

Police say they saw Moreno jump into the river but did not see the child with him. They said later Monday that they've confirmed the infant did enter the river and were now classifying the operation as a recovery.

Middletown firefighters pulled Moreno from the water and transported him to Hartford Hospital, where he was upgraded from serious to stable condition Monday and is alert and conscious. Police said they expect charges to be filed against the father.
