Conn. First Selectman Calls Out Republican Town Committee Members For Not Voting

TRUMBULL, CONN. (CBSNewYork) -- In Trumbull, Conn., First Selectman Tim Herbst is running for state treasurer and is taking to task some town officials who he says let down members of their own Republican party.

Herbst, 34, has received a lot of attention after going after town committee members for shirking their duty and not bothering to go to the polls in July's special election, WCBS 880's Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau reported.

He points out the Republican candidate for the board of finance lost the July election by just 95 votes.

Herbst says he can't understand why GOP town committee members were so apathetic.

"They were beneficiaries of hard work by many dedicated volunteers and they could not reciprocate that by going to the polls and voting," he said.

Herbst mailed Republican members of the committee telling them if they do not turn out to vote in this critical town election, they should immediately resign their post.
