New York, California Congressmen Make Friendly Bet On Mets-Dodgers NLDS

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Long Island Congressman Steve Israel is confident that the Mets will handle the Dodgers in their upcoming playoff series.

He's so sure of his team that he's willing to put his money where his mouth is -- so to speak.

Israel and Congressman Adam Schiff from California have decided to enter in a friendly wager.

"Schiff is my best friend in Congress; he just has terrible judgement on baseball," Israel told 1010 WINS. "We've decided to put our partisan differences, when it comes to baseball, to the test."

If the Mets win, Schiff will have to give Israel gourmet popcorn from Los Angeles and wear a Mets tie on the floor of the House.

"If somehow everything goes wrong and the Dodgers win, I'm shipping him two-dozen fresh New York bagels, and I have to wear a Dodgers tie on the floor of the House," Israel said.

The loser will also have to deliver a one-minute speech on the House floor extolling the virtues of the team moving on to the National League Championship Series.
