Man Claims Coney Island Hospital Staff Falsely Accused Dying Woman Of Being High On K2

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man filed a lawsuit against Coney Island Hospital this week, claiming that his wife was accused of using an illegal substance as she lay dying of meningitis.

"To me, she was tortured," said Jorge Matos.

Matos is filed a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of his late wife, Grisel Soto.

"If I wanted somebody, my enemy, to go through something and I wanted to watch, that would be the perfect job," he said.

Grisel Soto was in agony, and attorney Sanford Rubenstein said hospital staffers accused her of being high on synthetic marijuana, or K2.

"And the autopsy found that the cause of death was meningitis," Rubenstein said. "There was no marijuana -- synthetic or otherwise -- in her body."

The leadership team at the hospital has been replaced. A spokesman said, "We provide quality, safe care."
