Columbus Circle Briefly Closed For Suspicious Package

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD Bomb Squad was dispatched to Columbus Circle late Thursday, after a suspicious package was found.

The package turned out to be benign.

The Bomb Squad was called for the suspicious package at Columbus Circle, at 59th Street and Broadway, as of 11 p.m.

Columbus Circle was closed during the investigation, and police advised that the area should be avoided.

Multiple police vehicles were seen at the scene, and crime scene tape was mounted.

Police later gave the all-clear, after the package turned out to be clothes that had been left unattended in a red suitcase.
