Students In Montclair, N.J. Banned From Wearing Clown Costumes To School

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (CBSNewYork)  -- Students in the Montclair School District in New Jersey are banned from wearing clown costumes and masks to school this Halloween.

Interim Superintendent Ron Bolandi told 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria a number of children sought counselling because of their fears brought on by the creepy clown activity in the surrounding areas.

"Kids really, really upset in our buildings. We have seven elementary schools, so we had on average I would say one or two in every building, and then there were discussions on the playgrounds, a couple of kids go home," Bolandi said.

Students who show up in clown costumes or masks will be told to change or go home.
