Christie: 'I'm Disappointed' I'm Not Trump's Running Mate

CLEVELAND (CBSNewYork) -- New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will be speaking Tuesday night at the Republican National Convention after Donald Trump didn't pick him as his running mate.

CBS2's Marcia Kramer spoke to Christie about the disappointment at not getting tabbed Trump's vice presidential candidate.

"Yes, of course," Christie said. "If you compete for something and you don't get it, I'm the kind of person who's a competitor and of course I'm disappointed."

Christie was bombarded at the convention about how he feels about Trump picking Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.

"That disappointment goes away after a day," the New Jersey governor explained. "I've had so many great moments in my career."

CBS2's Kramer reported the talk at the convention is that the selection of Pence may doom Christie to always being the bridesmaid, and not the bride. If Trump wins, Pence would be in a good position to campaign to succeed him, and if he doesn't, Pence's national exposure may give him a leg up in 2020.

Christie still has a very important job with Trump as he's running the billionaire's transition operation, and there is talk of a cabinet position.

New Jersey Assemblyman Jon Bramnick, who is mulling a campaign for governor, said he was disappointed Christie wasn't on the ticket.

"I'm disappointed, but look, we're a team player. We go on, we move on, that's the way it works," Bramnick said. "I'm obviously disappointed for him. It's a team game, it's a team sport."

Christie could have another political game plan up his sleeve. He was very publicly sitting at the convention with his son, Andrew, a recent graduate from Princeton University. Andrew Christie doesn't rule out politics one day.

"I certainly have no clue right now, you can never rule it out," he said. "I'll never say never, but certainly not right now."
