Chris Christie To Meet With Donald Trump In Indiana

TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is heading to Indiana for political meetings with Republican presidential front runner Donald Trump.

New Jersey Republican Party spokesman Pete Sheridan said Wednesday Christie will participate in political meetings with Trump, but did not give further details.

Christie is scheduled to return to New Jersey later Wednesday and appear on his monthly regular radio interview program.

The New Jersey governor endorsed Trump shortly after cutting his own presidential campaign short in the wake of a big loss in February's New Hampshire primaries. The decision sparked criticism from local editorial boards, who voiced concerns over Christie's priorities when it came to putting the needs of the state first.

Christie last appeared with Trump on the trail in March, missing the funeral of a New Jersey state trooper and drawing criticism. Christie responded saying the criticism was expected and that he planned to attend a groundbreaking elsewhere in New Jersey even if he were in the state.

Christie said earlier this week if Trump asks for his help and he is able to go, he would.

Trump got closer to the GOP presidential nomination Tuesday night, as the billionaire captured the New York Republican primary in a sweeping victory over rivals Ted Cruz and John Kasich.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Trump was awarded 89 of the 95 delegates up for grabs in New York State. Kasich had received three, with no delegates reported for Cruz. Though Trump dominated the state, Kasich was able to snag a victory in Manhattan, with a 45 percent to 42 percent lead.
