NYPD Officer Uses Heimlich To Save Man Choking On Lifesaver Candy, Police Say
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A NYPD officer used the Heimlich maneuver to save a 49-year-old man choking on a "Lifesaver" candy late Saturday night.
According to police, the Bronx man walked into the transit district station house on Hoyt and Schermerhorn Streets shortly after 10 p.m. He was holding his throat and gasping at the time.
After seeing the man was in distress, Officer Soner Ozuk used the Heimlich maneuver on the man, forcing what was later identified as a a "Lifesaver" candy out of his throat, police said.
The man was taken to Brooklyn Hospital for treatment, police said. He was later released.
