Child plunges three floors onto East Harlem balcony

NEW YORK - A 7-year-old survived falling from the 12th floor of a high-rise onto a terrace three floors below.

It happened around 11 a.m. Friday on East 131st Street in East Harlem

It was the sound of the 7-year-old boy falling three floors from the 12th story to the ninth that alerted a neighbor, who ran over to help. The good Samaritan is someone Brianna McCall knows well - a relative of hers who want to remain anonymous

"He was in the living room, in the kitchen. He heard that thump, and he jumped up and reacted," McCall said. "He jumped over the gate to get a little boy and bring him back in the building as he was screaming for help. Someone called 911, and that's how we ended up here... there was no bleeding or anything like that."

Some residents of the building on East 131st Street said windows on the 12th floor only open a small part of the way. Police said they are investigating.

"I just hope... nothing like that ever happens again," neighbor Ebony Richmond said. "It should be way more safeguards against that kind of situation. But hopefully we can get better with it and keep an eye on the kids, what they're doing."

Police say the boy has no broken bones - that's considered a miracle.

No criminality is suspected at this time police said.
