Child Falls From Window In Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A child plunged from the window of a Queens building Thursday morning.

The 3-year-old boy fell from the building at 38th Avenue and Union Street in Flushing.

The child fell from the sixth floor and landed on a fourth floor balcony, CBS2's Dan Rice reported.

The child was rushed to Cohen's Children's Hospital in serious condition but was conscious and alert, according to authorities.

Neighbors told CBS2's Dave Carlin the boy and his 6-year-old brother were watching television in the living room while their stay-at-home mother was in the kitchen cooking. Their grandfather was also present in the apartment, neighbors said.

The child's father was at work at the time and his other brother at school, neighbors said.

"I heard he was awake he was fine but I also heard he was bleeding from his head," neighbor Mohamed Azeez said. "It's summer. Windows are open and think we should have guards."

It wasn't immediately known if there were guards on the windows.
