2 Passengers Killed, Driver Hurt When SUV Collides With Tractor Trailer In New Jersey

CHESTER, N.J. (CBSNewYork) --Two people were killed and a third was hurt in a multi-vehicle crash in northern New Jersey Thursday afternoon.

Police say a tractor trailer collided with an SUV occupied by three people near the intersection of Furnace Road and U.S. Route 206 in Chester around 3:30 p.m.

Chopper 2 was live over the scene, where the tractor trailer came to a rest in the yard of a nearby home.

The driver of the SUV was flown to Morristown Medical Center for treatment. Police say the two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities weren't immediately known.

Route 206 was closed for about five hours as investigators combed the intersection for evidence.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
