Police: Thousands In Cash, Jewelry Stolen From Charles Rangel's Harlem Apartment

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Thousands of dollars in cash and jewelry were stolen from Rep. Charles Rangel's apartment in Harlem in an apparent burglary.

The NYPD confirmed to CBS2 that the congressman's wife filed a burglary report with police on Wednesday.

Sources told CBS2 that this incident is grand larceny due to no forced entry.

The Rangels found that $400 in cash from a bag inside the kitchen was missing, along with a $500 gold ring, a $5,000 string of pearls and a $9,000 diamond ring.

The Rangels told police that neighbors and their cleaning service have keys to the apartment on 135th Street. They also told police they host large gatherings in the apartment.

No arrests have been made.

CBS2 has reached out to Rangel's office for comment.
