Charles Wang Writes Letter To Isles Fans, Vows To Bring Cup To Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Islanders' final season at the Nassau Coliseum was thrilling and emotional, but it was also highly disappointing.

New York played brilliant hockey for months but faltered down the stretch, finishing third in the Metropolitan Division with a 47-28-7 record (101 points).

The Isles lost their opening-round playoff series in heartbreaking fashion, falling to the Capitals in seven games.

Now a new era begins in Brooklyn, as the Isles' new home -- beginning next season -- will be Barclays Center.

In Friday's edition of Newsday, Islanders owner Charles Wang addressed a letter to his fans.

"This franchise is not satisfied with only qualifying for the playoffs because Islanders fans deserve a Stanley Cup," Wang wrote. "We will not stop until this happens and Lord Stanley returns.

"It truly is a privilege to have such incredible fans. As disappointing as it is that the Coliseum will no longer be our home, we are thrilled to begin playing at Barclays Center ... Along with Garth Snow, my partners and I look forward to being with you in Brooklyn and bringing all of our traditions to Barclays Center."
