Charges Upgraded Against Alleged Drunken Driver After NJ Victim Dies

EDGEWATER, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A woman who prosecutors say was driving drunk when she allegedly struck a bicyclist in Bergen County last week will now face an upgraded charge following the man's death.

Siobhan Stokley, 40, of North Bergen, initially was charged with assault by auto following Friday night's accident in Edgewater. But Bergen County prosecutors announced Monday that she now will also face a vehicular homicide count.

Stokley was released after posting $15,000 bail, but was due to turn herself in Monday afternoon to face the new count. Her bail will be set at $125,000 cash, and it's not known if she has retained an attorney.

According to Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli, Stokley was driving northbound on River Road around 10:50 p.m. Friday when her 2007 Hummer H2 struck the rear wheel of a bicycle driven by Tony Tyson, 61, of Jersey City. The collision caused Tyson to fall from his bicycle and strike his head against the paved roadway surface.

Stokley is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.
