Former Chappaqua High School Drama Teacher Charged With Sex Abuse

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A former Westchester County high school drama teacher is accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with three minors at the school.

Christopher Schraufnagel, 41, surrendered to authorities on Wednesday, the Westchester district attorney's office said.

Schraufnagel taught at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua until last month.

According to prosecutors, Schraufnagel engaged in several instances of sexual assault and inappropriate sexual contact with the students between May 1, 2011 and June 5, 2015.

Prosecutors said between May and June in 2001, Schraufnagel engaged in oral sex with a then-15-year-old student inside the school.

In 2014, Schraufnagel allegedly asked another 15-year-old student to kiss every student in a class while Schraufnagel took pictures. He then made a slide show to humiliate the students, prosecutors alleged.

Schraufnagel is also accused of having numerous inappropriate conversations with "strong sexual overtones" and sexual contact with another student of the school between Oct. 1, 2014 and June 5, 2015, prosecutors said.

Schraufnagel, of Manhattan, was arraigned Wednesday on charges of criminal sex act, endangering the welfare of a minor and sex abuse.
