Chaos Erupts At Child's Birthday Party After Bees Swarm Backyard In Harding Township

HARDING TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A bee swarm brought a New Jersey 5-year-old's birthday party to an abrupt halt Wednesday.

Police said the incident happened at around 5:30 p.m. at a home on Post House Road in Harding Township.

Twenty-one children were playing in the backyard of the home when police said some of the kids may have gotten too close to a hive inside a tree stump on the property, CBS 2 reported.

Soon after, panic ensued. Adults in attendance rushed everyone into the house and called 911.

"I called 911 and all the kids were screaming, just screaming," said grandfather Ross Alfieri.

"There were so many children that were affected, including Andrew here. He got stung on his neck," said mom Karen Hefner.

In total, police said two adults and five children were stung by the swarm.

All of the children and Alfieri, who was also stung, are expected to recover fully. There were no allergic reactions and emergency personnel treated everyone who was stung at the home, CBS 2 reported.
