Ceremony Marks Construction Progress At Sandy Hook Elementary School
NEWTOWN, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Officials in Newtown, Connecticut are marking progress in the construction of a new school at the site of the Sandy Hook school massacre.
A topping off ceremony is planned Tuesday to mark the placement of the final steel construction beam at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Construction of the new school, which is being paid for with a $50 million state grant, began in March.
The old school, where 20 children and six educators were shot and killed in 2012, was demolished in October, 2013.
The new school is planned to open at the start of the 2016-17 school year.
