Teen Who Lost Part Of His Leg In Central Park Explosion Walking Again

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Virginia college student who lost part of his leg in an explosion in Central Park over the summer is walking again.

Connor Golden, 18, posted a picture of himself on his GoFundMe page, walking for the first time with his new prosthetic leg.

Golden said he is back at school and is grateful to everyone who contributed money to help him pay for the new limb.

"I cannot find words that adequately express my gratitude for how much hope and support you all have given me," Golden said. "It is a beautiful thing to see how many people are by my side when a tragedy like this strikes."

On July 3, the teen jumped off a large rock in Central Park and landed on a plastic bag filled with chemicals that triggered an explosion. Police said the device contained traces of common substances that can be found at local hardware stores and appeared to be the work of a hobbyist.

Golden was rushed to Bellevue Hospital where he had to have his leg amputated.
