Central Islip Man Charged In String Of Commercial Burglaries

HAPPAUGE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – Suffolk County Police said they have arrested a man accused of a string of commercial burglaries spanning the last few months.

John Sheats, of Central Islip, was arrested and charged with seven counts of third-degree burglary, one count of third-degree attempted burglary and resisting arrest.

Police say an officer was on patrol when he heard an alarm coming from a business on Motor Parkway around 5 a.m. Friday. When the officer got to the scene, he saw a suspect, who police have identified as Sheats, fleeing the building.

Sheats was found hiding in nearby bushes and was arrested, police said.

He's accused of committing burglaries in Medford, Coram, Nesconset, Village of the Branch and Hauppauge. Police say the first burglary occurred on May 9 in Medford.

Sheats is set to be arraigned Sunday.
