Centereach Residents Stunned After 18 Cars Vandalized

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Authorities are investigating after 18 cars were damaged in Centereach, Long Island.

As WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported, the windows were smashed in on car after car along seven different blocks.

Some residents said they have glass coverage, but many do not and will now have to shell out hundreds of dollars to fix the damage right before Christmas.

One victim said he was planning on making Christmas cookies and wrapping gifts. Instead he spent the day on the phone with his insurance company.

"One was in the driveway. One was in the street," he said. "I did not hear anything. I just woke up and found one glass broken and I realized the other glass was broken and I called the police."

And another resident said two of the cars in front of his home were also hit.

"I know it's the last day of college and it could've been college kids celebrating. Because my daughter and stuff, that's what they said," he said.

So far, no arrests have been made.
