After More Than 20 Years, Potholes Finally Filled On Long Island Street

CENTEREACH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Residents who waited for more than two decades to get the potholes fixed on their street on Long Island are in for a smoother ride.

Town workers were seen Tuesday, filling in potholes on Pine Street in Centereach, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported.

"It's been awhile we've been waiting," resident Steven Sokolowski said, adding the potholes have been there since he moved onto the block 17 years ago. "Neighbors up the street have been here for 21 years and it's been in the same condition."

Sokolowski said he wasn't bothered by it until he and his wife had children.

"I didn't care when I was just driving on it," Sokolowski said. "But now we have a 6-year-old, a 4-year-old, and a 2-year-old, and they should be able to ride their bikes on the road."

Sokolowski said his oldest child fell when he first got his training wheels and hit a bad patch in the road.

"Now his bike is at grandma's house," Sokolowski said. "I'm excited to maybe go pick up his bike today and bring it back over here."

The Town of Brookhaven's highway superintendent said the street is now on a high-priority list and will be paved, Hall reported.
