Celebrity Manicurist Deborah Lippman's Guide To Spring Nails

NEW YORK (WLNY) -- Lady Gaga and Gwyneth Paltrow are some of the A-listers celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippman counts as her clients. She stopped by The Couch to show us some of the hottest nail trends of the season.

Pastel Layering

Beautiful, opaque pastels are going to be a big trend for spring. The soft, light colors are very refreshing! A light shimmer is going to be a huge hit as well -- particularly something like La Vie En Rose. Here you have a blooming baby blue with the light pink shimmer.

Lupita Nyong'o is actually a huge fan of both of these colors. She actually wore the pink shimmer to the Oscars this year.

This is also a great look for your toes -- matching fingers and toes is cool again, when done with the right colors. This is a case where the same colors look great together.

Bright Color Blocking

Nail art has been huge for the past few seasons, but going into spring, I think we're going to see a lot more minimalistic nail art.

For example, this tilted cresent nail gives a peek-a-boo of the brighter red below. It is something that draws attention, but isn't crazy.

So looking at the toes, this is a case where you can use your accent color to complement. Since the pink, Break 4 Love, is so prevelant on the nails, use the accent color for your toes!

Opaque White

White is back this spring! I am seeing it on set and on my celebrity clients. We're not talking sheer whites like you've seen in the past -- these are opaque, which makes it a bit fresher.

You can also accent your fingers and toes if you're interested in a bit more nail art.

Here we've added some Swarovski crystals; this is great for a summer wedding or backyard party.

Glitter

Glitter is always in! During the spring and summer you can use something with more color than you would in the winter, which is better with silvers, golds, and blacks.

This one in particular is great because it has a blue base, so you don't have to paint a lacquer color underneath the glitter.

Glitter can be a bit tricky. For more glitter coverage, I suggest taking the brush and placing it parallel to the nail, tapping it on the nail plate for more coverage.

This exact color was actually worn by Kelly Clarkson at the Grammy's last year. It really stands out against any outfit.
