CBS2 Exclusive: Irish Tourist Tearfully Confronts Man Who Attacked Her

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman went through an emotional confrontation in court in the Bronx Friday, as she came face-to-face with the man who attacked her.

As CBS2's Tracee Carrasco reported, Alisha Jordan broke down in tears after she bravely faced Kevin Bynum.

"Within the span of one night, my entire life changed," she said in a victim impact statement court.

Jordan, 23, was visiting from Ireland in 2012 when Bynum hit her in the face with a slab of concrete, after a night out with friends.

She returned to New York on Friday so she could tell Bynum in person just how horribly he hurt her.

"I suffered extensive injuries, including a fractured skull which required 10 metal plates inserted into my head, broken cheek bones, broken orbital bones, a crushed nose and cracked teeth -- and all for no reason at all," she said.

Jordan underwent several surgeries to reconstruct her face. The attack, random and unprovoked, left Jordan physically and emotionally scarred.

"I sat and cried almost every night about how this attack disfigured my face, and the fear of you that I lived in was crippling," she said.

Jordan said she has since moved on with her life, but the horror of that night will live with her forever.

"As strong as you felt that night holding that slab of concrete between your hands, I hope here today that you feel as weak as you truly are," she said.

Bynum showed no emotion until the judge asked if he had anything to say.

"I am very sorry for what happened," Bynum said. "I didn't know I hurt anybody as severely as was stated. I didn't know what would happen that night, because I was drinking."

Bynum, who previously pleaded guilty to assault, was sentenced to eight years in prison with an order to stay away from Jordan.
