Orange High School Suspends At Least 30 After Hacker Changes Grades
ORANGE, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- More than 30 students at a New Jersey high school have been suspended after someone hacked into a computer system and changed grades, CBS 2 has learned.
Most of those suspended from Orange High School, however, say they are innocent and that whoever hacked the system changed a lot of grades so it would not be tracked back to them.
At least 100 students were questioned about the incident.
Friends defended the suspended students Tuesday.
"That whole situation was wrong because everybody got in trouble didn't deserve it," Nelanja Nesbeth told CBS 2. "They really didn't know nothing about it."
"I don't think it's really fair because some of the kids who were on that list didn't have anything to do with it and you don't know who did it," one student told WCBS 880's Sean Adams.
The students are facing 10-day suspensions along with being banned from participating in extracurricular activities next school year, one student said.
The Orange Board of Education would not comment on the suspensions.
County investigators are trying to track down the hacker.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is investigating, Adams reported.
