Water Pipe Problem Forces Cancellation Of Night's Performance Of 'Cats'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A problem with a water pipe forced the cancellation of a production of the Broadway musical "Cats" Wednesday evening.

A water supply break in the private pipe at the Neil Simon Theatre, 250 W. 52nd St., prompted the cancellation of the Wednesday evening production of the show.

"Cats" tweeted that crews were working to fix the problem and performances would resume on Thursday. They advised theatergoers to contact their point of purchase for refunds.

The Andrew Lloyd Webber musical reopened at the beginning of the month under its original director, Trevor Nunn.

The original Broadway production opened in 1982. It bid farewell to Broadway in 2000 after an almost 18-year run.

It is now the fourth longest-running show in Broadway history.

"Cats'' was the first of the big British musicals with lavish settings and pop scores to invade Broadway in the 1980s. It earned a fortune for Lloyd Webber and producer Cameron Mackintosh, who went on to bring "Les Miserables,'' 'The Phantom of the Opera'' and "Miss Saigon'' to Broadway.
