Casserly On WFAN: Jets Fans Should Be Excited About Maccagnan, Bowles

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Charley Casserly was hired by Jets owner Woody Johnson to be a consultant as the organization looked to remake its front office.

Well Casserly's work is done. The former Redskins and Texans general manager was instrumental in bringing in new GM Mike Maccagnan and new head coach Todd Bowles.

Casserly was a guest of WFAN's Mike Francesa on Friday afternoon, and he shed some light on how he got involved with the Jets and how the hiring process unfolded.

The longtime NFL executive is very pleased with the football men that the Jets hired, and he thinks fans should be, too.

"I feel great about the candidates," Casserly told Francesa. "I hope the Jets fans feel equally as great now. They should. I think once you're around them -- and they're in the building and they're working -- you even felt better about it, for the few days we were with them."

Casserly has known Maccagnan for many years, and he described the new general manager as a tireless worker with an expertise in player personnel.

"He has the respect of the scouts, the respect of the coaches he's worked with," Casserly told Francesa. "(He's) very organized and thorough, and that's how he presented himself in the interview."

Casserly also provided a scouting report on Bowles, who he was extremely impressed with.

Johnson fired head coach Rex Ryan -- now the head coach of the Bills -- and general manager John Idzik after the Jets finished 4-12 and missed the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season.
