Car Crashes Through Wall Into House In Long Island

PLAINVIEW, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – A chain reaction crash in Long Island sent a car slamming into a home right through a wall around 10 a.m. Friday.

Skid marks and shards of metal show the path off Manetto Hill Road across Harry Johal's front lawn, smashing into the side of their home after hitting a truck, reports CBS2's Renna Roy.

"I went downstairs and the whole car was just in my downstairs living room," said Johal. "It was just like a very loud explosion just like shook the whole house."

The hole directly into their basement shows where the homeowner's brother was working on a playroom for his kids, sending debris flying into the house.

"He actually had rubble on him debris on him," he said. "I had to clear some beams off of him, managed to get him upstairs, ambulance took him."

"The sedan was in house the truck was in pole hit it head on," said Bruce Bromberg. "The guy was injured, he was lying in the truck. I told him to get out, get out, there was smoke coming out of front of the truck."

Another witness told CBS2 there were two people in each car, but it is unclear how they veered off the road.

Bromberg is urging drivers to take it easy on that stretch of roadway.

"I've been living here for 32 years every two weeks there's an accident here right on this corner," he said.

The injured were taken to nearby hospitals.

The homeowner said he was grateful his children – ages 3 and 5 – were not in the playroom when the crash happened.
