Canarsie Holiday Light Display In Full Swing
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Brooklyn holiday tradition started in the 1960's is in full effect this weekend.
As 1010 WINS's Roger Stern reported, over 500,000 lights, 100 animated dolls, and two dozen volunteers have turned a Canarsie house into a miniature winter wonderland.
Frank Seddio purchased the home at the corner of Flatlands Avenue and East 93rd Street in 1986. With his purchase came great responsibility.
The original owner had started the Canarsie tradition in the 1960's, and had a few reservations about the man who'd be purchasing his home.
"He said 'You're going to keep with the Christmas display, aren't you?'" said Seddio.
Little did he know, he'd triple it.
Seddio and his merry band of volunteers usually begin preparations in late October and finish by the first Sunday in December. The equipment can cost upwards of $350,000.
To the Canarsie Kris Kringle, it's all worth it to see the smiles on the faces of the children who visit.
"There's no money in this world that could pay for that kind of magic and that kind of pleasure you can get out of this," he said.
