Police: Man Wanted In Rape, Attempted Rape In Canarsie, Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police have now linked a rape in Canarsie, Brooklyn to a subsequent attempted rape in the same neighborhood.

Around 12:10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, the 19-year-old woman was walking south on Rockaway Parkway in Brooklyn when a man came up to her, said he had a gun, and threatened to rape her, police said. He never displayed a gun, according to police sources.

He pulled her into the back of the building at 1911 Rockaway Pkwy. and raped her, police said.

The suspect then ran north on Rockaway Parkway, while the woman was taken to Kings County Hospital Center where she was treated and released, police said.

Police sources told CBS2 the suspect threatened another woman and claimed he had a gun on Rockaway Parkway 90 minutes earlier. In that incident, the woman ran away and was not hurt, sources said.

The same suspect has also been linked to an attempted rape that police said happened eight days later.

Around 2:15 a.m. Monday, Sept. 7, a 29-year-old woman was walking near East 98th Street and Conklin Avenue in Brooklyn, when the suspect came up from behind, grabbed her by the arm, and said he had a gun, police said.

The suspect then forced the woman into a nearby parking lot, where he attempted to rape her, police said. The woman resisted, and the suspect rode off on a bicycle, police said.

The suspect was described as a black male with a medium complexion, standing about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing about 135 pounds.

In the first incident, he was wearing blue and white Hawaiian shorts and a white tank top, police said. In the second, he was wearing a bandana displaying Grenada's flag over his face, police said.

Police have released a new surveillance photo and video.
