Bill Cosby's Wife Gives Deposition In Defamation Lawsuit Brought By 7 Women

SPRINGFIELD, MASS. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Bill Cosby's wife gave a deposition Monday in a defamation lawsuit against her husband.

Camille Cosby answered questions under oath at the Marriott Hotel in Springfield, Massachusetts.

This is the first deposition she gave since dozens of women have claimed her husband drugged and assaulted them, 1010 WINS' Steve Kastenbaum reported.

On Sunday night, a judge ruled against an emergency motion from Cosby's lawyers to postpone her testimony.

Lawyers claimed Camille Cosby does not have any relevant information in the case and her conversations with her husband are confidential. They said her public testimony would create "an unnecessary media circus and personal security threat that serves no purpose other than to harass and embarrass her."

Seven women who claim the actor and comedian sexually assaulted them filed the defamation lawsuit, claiming Cosby defamed them by branding them as liars after they went public with the allegations. He's denied their allegations and filed a countersuit.

In December 2014, Camille Cosby released a statement regarding the allegations against her husband, saying those who have accused him of sexual assault have been "given a pass" without their accounts ever being vetted.

"There appears to be no vetting of my husband's accusers before stories are published or aired. An accusation is published, and immediately goes viral," she wrote.

Camille Cosby noted that she met her husband in 1963 and married him the following year, and said he is, in fact, "the man you thought you knew."
