Authorities: 17-Year-Old New Jersey Girl Charged In Shooting Death Of 13-Year-Old Boy

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP)-- A 17-year-old girl has been arrested in the separate shootings of two teenagers, including a 13-year-old boy who became the first homicide victim of the year in Camden, New Jersey.

Prosecutors on Wednesday charged the girl with murder in the death of Nathaniel Plummer Jr. earlier this month. Nathaniel was found shot on a sidewalk Jan. 7, and he died hours later Jan. 8.

"Justice has been served," Plummer's mother, Taisha Mercado, posted to her Facebook page, as reported by KYW.

Earlier this month Mercado said her son "laughed and joked and that's the kid that he was, he was that 13-year-old kid."

The girl surrendered Jan. 9 to face attempted murder and other charges stemming from an Oct. 30 shooting that left a 19-year-old man wounded. She has been held at a juvenile detention facility since then.

Authorities say ballistic evidence from the bullets linked the girl to both shootings.

She is charged as a juvenile, and her name hasn't been released.
