A witness told 1010 WINS reporter Gary Baumgarten that the vehicle was driving fast when it crashed through the front window of Optyx optical store at 228 2nd Ave near 14th Street.

"He was driving extremely, extremely fast," Richard Ciero said

The impact was so loud that a nearby store owner came outside thinking that a bomb had gone off, 1010 WINS' Baumgarten reported.

No one on the sidewalk was injured but the cab driver and a passenger were taken from the scene in an ambulance and treated for minor injuries.
