NYPD: Cab Drivers Targeted In Manhattan Robbery String

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD is searching for suspects wanted in connection to a series of robberies targeting cab drivers in Manhattan.

Police say they are investigating six incidents spanning from July 10 to July 22. Most of the incidents occurred in the Midtown section of Manhattan.

On July 22, two suspects allegedly hailed a cab near Union Square. While the cab driver was distracted, one suspect allegedly attempted to steal cash from the center cup holder in the passenger seat of the vehicle.

Police say a suspect standing next to the driver's side punched the cab driver in the face as he attempted to stop the suspect from stealing the cash. The suspects then fled on foot towards 14th Street.

Investigators have released surveillance video showing two of the suspects involved in the July 22 incident, which can be viewed above.

The NYPD is asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, or by logging on to their website at www.NYPDcrimestoppers.com. Tips can remain anonymous.
