CA Lawmaker Touts Police Commissioner Bratton For Top Secret Service Post

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A California congresswoman wants New York City Police Commissioner Bill Bratton to head the Secret Service.

Los Angeles Democrat Janice Hahn said in a statement that Bratton would be the "perfect pick" to take over the troubled agency.

Hahn worked with Bratton in Los Angeles when she was on the city council there and he was police chief. Her spokesman said she plans to write a letter to the White House recommending him.

Bratton said he appreciates the vote of confidence, but said he plans to stay put.

Secret Service Director Julia Pierson resigned last week amid an uproar over presidential protection lapses.
