Police: Assailant In Bushwick Rape, Robbery Was Victim's House Cleaner

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man has been charged in the rape of a woman in Bushwick, Brooklyn last month, and police said the man was the woman's house cleaner.

Romaric Guiebre, 20, of Brooklyn, was charged Wednesday with assault, burglary, grand larceny, criminal sexual assault, unlawful imprisonment, menacing, and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

The man was caught on video at the scene of the attack near DeKalb and Wilson avenues in Brooklyn around 1:30 a.m. July 25, police said.

The 29-year-old victim was sleeping and woke up to the sound of a stranger opening her door in the middle of the night.

Police said the suspect went into the apartment with a gun and asked the victim to choose between being raped and being killed, CBS2's Sonia Rincon reported last month. During the incident, police sources said the suspect told the victim that he wanted to go to Canada.

Before he left, police said he took several items including the victim's cell phone and credit card.

Police sources said the victim did not recognize the suspect during the attack, but she said they previously met.

The woman was treated at Woodhull Medical Center and released.
