Police: Man Dies After Being Shot Through Front Door Of Bushwick Building

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A 33-year-old Brooklyn man has died after he was shot in the head through the front door of his home, police said.

The shooting happened just after 1 a.m. Wednesday on Menahan Street near Wyckoff Avenue in Bushwick, 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reported.

Sources told 1010 WINS the victim's girlfriend heard a noise in the building, a row house, and told the boyfriend to check it out. When he walked into the building's vestibule someone fired a gun through the window of the lobby door.

Police are still investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting, but they are looking into the possibility that the victim might have interrupted a burglary.

The man – identified as Hector Diaz, 35 – was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

The shooter remains on the loose.
