Cops: False Alarm From Troubled Man Set Off Reports Of Bed-Stuy Building Collapse

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Reports of a building collapse in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn on Thursday turned out to be a false alarm.

An emotionally disturbed man reported the collapse around 8:30 p.m. and claimed to be injured authorities said.

According to the Department of Buildings, the building at 901 Myrtle Ave. was in the process of being demolished and had not collapsed at all.

Crews had responded to the scene and searched for possible people trapped, upon responding to reports that building had indeed collapsed. But they later learned that it had not collapsed and had looked the same a day earlier, sources at the scene told CBS2.

Police late Thursday said there was no report of any arrests in the incident.
