Mets Fans Bombard Bryce Harper's Instagram Page With 'LGM' Posts

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Mets fans are feeling downright giddy on Thursday following New York's thrilling three-game sweep of the Nationals down in D.C.

The Amazin's now hold a seven-game lead over the Nats -- who were heavily favored at the start of the season -- in the National League East, and fans are enjoying the unusual feeling of being on top.

Nationals star right fielder Bryce Harper -- who said last month that he doesn't care about how the Mets are playing -- is hearing it from fans on social media.

Mets fans have bombarded the NL MVP candidate's Instagram page with "LGM" posts.

Harper, meanwhile, is not why the Nationals are in second place. The 22-year-old slugger is having a season for the ages, batting .336 with 36 home runs and 85 RBIs.

The Nationals and Mets will play three more times in 2015, in the final series of the season at Citi Field (Oct. 2-Oct. 4).

The Mets are hoping that those game will be meaningless, as they aim to clinch the division in September and return to the postseason for the first time since 2006.

New York begins a four-game series against the lowly Braves on Thursday. Washington has an off day and will kick off a three-game set in Miami on Friday.
