Brooklynite's Twitter Push: Donate Unneeded 'Blizzard' Food To Hungry

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Did you buy too much food in preparation of this week's winter storm?

There's a push now to put it to good use if you don't need it.

Kristine Michelsen-Correa, of Brooklyn, created the Twitter hashtag "#blizzardleftovers" after her panicked pre-blizzard supermarket run.

"I just walked into the kitchen and I kind of did a double-take, and I realized that I had completely miscalculated my purchases," Michelsen-Correa told WCBS 880's Marla Diamond.

She's taking her leftovers to a local food pantry and is asking others to do the same.

"The idea was also just to get people thinking about food pantries in New York and the need -- which there is a real need right now," Michelsen-Correa said.

New York City is asking residents to call 311 to find their local drop-off site.
