39-Year-Old Mother Of Three Killed In Brooklyn Hit-And-Run

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The family of a 39-year-old mother of three killed in a hit-and-run crash in Brooklyn is making an emotional plea to help find the driver.

Evedette Sanchez was crossing Louisiana Avenue after her shift at a nearby warehouse Wednesday evening when police said she was struck by a dark-colored SUV traveling westbound on Flatlands Avenue.

Police said the driver made a right hand turn, struck Sanchez and kept going, CBS2's Magdalena Doris reported.

Sanchez was found lying in the roadway with severe head trauma, and was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

"Pray for my family, please. Please, pray for my family. Nobody wants this to happen to their family," the victim's cousin, Willie Harrison, said. "We just finished celebrating Christmas, was talking about the new year, trying to get things prepared, want things to be better."

Harrison is appealing to possible witnesses and the person responsible for hitting Sanchez to come forward.

"We need help on this situation," Harrison said. "Anybody who knows Evedette Sanchez knows she was a very, very good woman."

The vehicle fled the scene northbound on Louisiana Avenue, police said.

Employees at a store near the scene said their surveillance cameras do not cover the intersection, Doris reported.

Late Thursday, Sanchez's family voiced an emotional plea asking possible witnesses to come forward and help identify the driver.

"We need help in this situation," said the victim's cousin, Willie Harrison. "Anyone who knows Evedette Sanchez knows she was a very, very good woman."

The investigation is ongoing.
