Brooklyn Teacher's Assistant Accused Of Groping Disabled Girl

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A New York City teacher's assistant was charged this week with groping a 13-year-old girl with Down syndrome near the Brooklyn school where he works.

Jesus Lorenzo, 69, was arrested at 12:17 p.m. Thursday, police said. He was charged with forcible touching, endangering the welfare of a child, and sexual conduct with an individual less than 17, police said.

A spokeswoman for the city Department of Education called the charges extremely disturbing. She said Lorenzo has been suspended without pay pending the resolution of the case.

Lorenzo has worked at Intermediate School 318 in Williamsburg since 1999.
