Police: Suspect Faces Hate Crime Charges In Brooklyn Slashing

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A suspect is facing hate crime charges in connection with the slashing of a 53-year-old woman in Brooklyn.

Gregory Alfred, 25, was arrested Tuesday on multiple charges including attempted murder as a hate crime, hate crime felony assault, criminal possession of a weapon and others.

The incident happened around 9:45 a.m. on March 10 in Prospect Park South.

The woman was walking on Beverly Road between Argyle and Rugby roads when police said Alfred, wearing an American flag bandana over his face, came up from behind and slashed her in the neck with a knife.

Alfred allegedly made a comment about the victim being white.

The woman was taken to hospital in stable condition. She is recovering.
