NYPD Officer Injured In Brooklyn Shooting Released From Hospital

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An NYPD officer who was wounded in a shootout with a suspect in Brooklyn has been released from the hospital.

Officer William Reddin left Kings County Hospital Tuesday afternoon in a wheelchair as fellow officers clapped and cheered. He waved to the crowd and shook hands before getting into a waiting car.

Reddin suffered a gun shot wound to his hip Saturday morning.

Police arrested Frederick Jamal Funes after he allegedly pointed a gun at officers, drove away and then crashed into a patrol car in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

More than 30 rounds were fired during the incident that also injured fellow Officer Andrew Yurkiw.

A bullet from Funes' gun struck Yurkiw in his bullet-resistant vest, police said. The bullet that hit Reddin in the hip was fragmented and it has not been determined where it came from.

Funes was also hit multiple times and is in the hospital in critical condition.
